Drovers Rest Cafe sits on Loftus Street in Bemboka, serving as a convenient and friendly stop for travelers and locals alike. This cafe blends the straightforward comforts of a coffee shop with a bit more — a broad menu that reflects the diversity of needs in a small town transitioning through change, especially since the local grocery store’s closure.

Inside, the atmosphere feels homey, with decor that welcomes you like a familiar living room. Friendly, attentive staff—often young local owners—keep the vibe relaxed yet efficient, catering to morning commuters, families, and road trippers. Given its location, Drovers Rest functions partly as a community pit stop: you can grab a solid coffee and a substantial meal, pick up snacks, or even find basic convenience items like ice cream and razors. This dual role makes it a practical place to break up long drives or a casual hangout for locals.

Food here leans towards generous, hearty meals rather than delicate cafe snacks. Portion sizes are noticeable, and while prices sit marginally above other nearby cafes, the quality and consistency seem to justify the spend. Burgers and chips come up repeatedly in word-of-mouth, standing out as reliable choices alongside good coffee, which is a key draw for regulars. On sunny days, the view overlooking the valley complements the slower pace, inviting visitors to linger over a relaxed meal or coffee.

Parking is straightforward, right at the door, and basic facilities are available, making quick stops hassle-free. Overall, Drovers Rest Cafe works well for anyone passing through Bemboka needing a bit of fuel—whether coffee, a proper meal, or quick convenience shopping—with a casual atmosphere that feels anchored in its community setting. If you’re traveling from further afield, like Canberra, come mid-day to enjoy the food alongside the valley view and break from the road.

Bang for your buck food, and friendly service to boot. Great place to stop for some eats when you are on the road.

Marginally more expensive than other cafes but you pay a but more for the quality and quantity of food. Always consistent, fantastic chips, great selection of drinks and food. Also has some convenience store items like ice cream, razors, snacks and gifts which since the local grocery store closed is welcome. Staff are always friendly and attentive. New owners took over about a year ago and has improved dramatically. It's also known as the Purple People Feeder now.
